Oven roasting asparagus
will give an intense smoky flavor quite distinct from boiling or steaming.
Steps and to technique properly to oven roast asparagus:
Take
one bunch of fresh asparagus and wash thoroughly several times in
warm water
Trim off the end of each steam of the asparagus
Pre
heat oven to 220 degrees F (gas mark 7)
Place freshly trimmed asparagus on a baking sheet and drizzle extra
virgin olive oil over them. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper.
To add a unique flavor place in a few chopped cloves of fresh garlic
For a low or no fat option replace olive oil with non fat cooking
spray
Take
your baking sheet full of olive oil drizzled fresh asparagus and
place it in the oven. Set your timer for 10 minutes
Checking periodically during those 10 minutes turnover the fresh
asparagus a few times depending on the thickness of the spears.
The asparagus stems should be soft, not limp, tips should be slightly
crunchy.
Remove
baking tray full of oven roasted asparagus out of the oven.
Quickly
take the oven roasted asparagus off the baking tray and into clean
bowl and lightly sprinkle grated Parmesan Reggiano Cheese on top.
(If you leave the asparagus on the baking tray for to long your
asparagus will get softer.)
Enjoy
the great flavor of your freshly oven roasted asparagus
